Thoughtful Thursdays 1/9/2014

Last Sunday our pastor was talking about doing the right thing and sometimes you have to Stand Alone.

I was setting towards the back of the sanctuary and I realize that the people there were doing the right thing and standing alone by being in the evening service.  I am glad to be at a church that still has an evening service.  I know that there are lots of churches that have stopped having evening service and other new churches that have never had evening church.  I am not sure what their reasons for not have evening church is and I am not say it is right or wrong to have it just that I am glad we have it.   Going to church does not determine if you are going to heaven or not.

In Ephesians 2:8,9 it tells us:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

I think it more important to look at why we are not there.  What is motivating us to be there or not.  I know that for some they cannot drive at night and some cannot come for health issue.  There are many other reason people do not attend church services, sometimes it is they don’t like the music or they don’t like the peaching style.  There are many reason, I just think it is important to look at why we do what we do.

I know for me I look forward to going to church.  It is up to me to allow the Holy Spirit to place me in a place of worship, not the music or by an entertaining pastor.  It is up to me to listen and find what God is trying to teach me through the message.  It is my responsibility to be sensitive to those around me that may need help.

Below are a few passages that talk about the body of Christ.  I encourage you to look them up and examine your motives for being in church or not being in church.

  • Hebrews 10: 23-26
  • Romans 12:4-8
  • 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
  • 1 Peter4:10-11

After church I got some discouraging news and I was glad I was around my church family.  After church several of us when out to eat and I really enjoyed the fellowship with fellow believers.  Church can be a great place to be if you allow it to be.
